Holbeton's village pub
The Mildmay Colours is a traditional village pub located in the heart of a small, quiet, picture postcard village nestled in the beautiful South Devon countryside. We are passionate about providing a warm and friendly welcome and serving local Devon Ales and ciders, and delicious home-cooked food.
We thank all of our customers for your continued support and we are looking forward to opening our doors again from 2nd December and welcoming you all back. Although the lead up to the seasonal holidays will be a little different this year we can assure you some things haven’t changed. We can still offer you a warm welcome, a roaring log burner, fresh local Devon ales and cider and delicious food and of course the chance to enjoy the festive season with your loved ones from your household or social bubble. Of course you can also catch up with your friends outside in groups of up to 6 people with the warmth of our patio heater.
Come and visit us!

About our pub
We have a lovely terrace area for eating out on in warm weather and a fabulous log burner which in the winter months is ideal to warm up by after a walk on our local beaches.
We open for brunch/lunch every Saturday and Sunday. We serve evening meals from Wednesday to Saturday.
On Wednesday mornings between 10-12 we open for our popular Coffee and Cake. We source our produce locally as we are keen to support our local economy. We are dog friendly and when it is quiet you may be introduced to our pub dog Merlin.
History of The Mildmay Colours
The Mildmay Colours is run by husband and wife team Rik and Nicky who also run The Ivy Barn Bed and Breakfast which is located behind the pub.
The pub was purchased by a small group of villagers in November 2019. When pubs were closed in March 2020 due to lockdown we decided to refurbish, and after a lot of hard work including the installation of a new kitchen, the pub was reopened at the end of August.
We are pleased with the result, and are very much looking forward to welcoming you.
Food and drink
We have a good range of delicious wines, including some specially selected House options which we think you'll love. Enjoy our exciting range of spirits and liqueurs, including some fabulous flavoured gin, and a range of excellent draft beer, lager and cider.
We are currently finalising our post-lockdown menu. Watch this space!
Thank you to everyone who has supported our takeaway service through the lockdown period.
We are currently finalising our post-lockdown menus. The service will continue to be available from Wednesday to Saturday; please check back here very soon for details.

We regularly hold quizzes and for the October quiz we raised £70 for Dementia. We had planned to hold two Christmas quizzes in December due to popular demand (16th and 17th December) raising money for Cystic Fibrosis. We are hoping they can go ahead and are currently seeking advice from the British Institute of Innkeepers as to whether they can still go ahead in a restaurant setting.
Since taking over the pub we have continued the tradition of the Holbeton Christmas Draw. This year the draw will take place on Tuesday 22nd December. Our big prize is the contents of a hamper and there will be some smaller prizes to win. You can buy your squares from the Holbeton Village stores. Just ask Jack when you are in the Holbeton stores/post office or you can buy one from us in the pub from 2nd December. Tables will need to be booked in advance for food and drink.
We have exciting news that the pub sign is finished and will shortly be mounted in the frame. So look out for our new Mildmay Colours sign when you visit our pub.
An update from us
When we reopen after lockdown, we'll be returning to the safety measures we had in place previously, with all customers ordering and being served at tables.
Our furniture will be sanitised before every customer sits down and we will continue to clean the whole pub regularly. Sanitisers will be available throughout the pub for customers to use.
We ask customers to be patient with us during this period as things have had to change to adapt to the new laws and guidelines in place. Please remember to wear a mask on entering and moving through the pub, and observe the usual social distancing rules for everyone's safety - including that of our staff.
The first phases of the refurb are complete. There's still a bit to be done, but the pub is now looking really good.
Check out our short refurbishment animation on YouTube.
These are some of the pictures taken as the work was being carried out. They are the 'before' pictures, but for the full 'after' experience you'll have to come and visit us for yourself!
Nicky and Rik - proprietors of The Mildmay Colours - also run the Ivy Barn B&B - located just by the pub. If you stay in the Ivy Barn, you'll be having breakfast in the Colours!
The Ivy Barn is ideal for those wishing to just get away from it all and to have a quality, relaxing stay.
All rooms have en suite bathroom and private ground floor access.
There's plenty of free on-site parking.
